“He had watched the Akote from the beginning. Before then. From the time when the Sun came into being. When first woman saw the flame of first man and first man was drawn to the fire of first woman, when he and the others emerged from the dark worlds onto this earth.”
COYOTE is an 80,000 word novel: an anti-western set in the canyons of the Southwest. It starts in 1824 when Arizona was part of Mexico and ends as the US Civil War begins. The story plots the integration of a white trader into the Akote, and that tribe’s struggle with the invading US across three generations.
It explores racial and cultural identity, emotional inheritance, and what it means to be a son, husband, and father, in times of conflict. Robin has been mentored in the project by Russ Litten, and is currently looking for a publisher for the book.
